Shopify B2B catalogs and a quote app answer different questions. Catalogs publish price lists inside Shopify. A quote app collects a request, negotiates, and can turn an accepted quote into a draft order. Shopify’s help page on creating catalogs, fetched 13 October 2026, documents B2B companies, market catalogs, and net terms on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. Request a Quote and Hide Price does not write those catalogs. The quote app is fully free in its catalog, on stores that are not on Plus as well as stores that are.
There is no single winner. Use catalogs when the price is a list you assign in Shopify. Use the quote app when the price should stay off the public product page until a buyer asks and you agree. A store can use both, as long as you do not expect the quote app to fill Shopify’s catalog records.
What Shopify’s catalog page says about limits
On lower plans, that help page says you can have up to 3 active market catalogs. Plus adds company-location catalogs, so a catalog can be assigned directly to a company location, and Plus adds deposits and partial payments. Companies, market catalogs, and net terms are not described as Plus-only.
The same help page makes two statements about how many catalogs Plus can hold. This article quotes both. The introduction says Plus market catalogs are unlimited. The same page also says a company location can have a maximum of 25 catalogs and a store can have a maximum of 10,000 catalogs. Those sentences are both on the page fetched 13 October 2026. This comparison does not pick one sentence and drop the other. If you are planning capacity, read the current page and ask Shopify which figure applies to the setup you are building.
Shopify’s Plus upgrade page, fetched the same day, says Plus starts at $2,300 USD per month on a 3-year term or $2,500 USD per month on a 1-year term, or a variable platform fee. That is the published starting price. It is not a custom quote for your store, and it is not a fee the quote app charges.
What the quote app documents instead
Request a Quote and Hide Price hides prices in four ways: the whole storefront, selected products, rules on title, product type, vendor, price, tag, stock status, or collection, or products that already show the quote button. Buyers can request a quote without a store account, then open a token link to accept, reject, counter, or chat. You can send a quote PDF, brand the emails with a logo and colors, and convert an accepted quote to a Shopify draft order.
That draft can include a discount, shipping lines, tax lines, a deposit-and-balance schedule, and NET 7, 15, 30, 60, or 90. Those are actions on the quote and on the draft order the app creates. They do not create a Shopify market catalog or a company-location catalog. Shopify’s own deposits and partial payments remain the Plus features described on the help page. The quote app’s deposit schedule is a draft-order schedule in this app, not a claim that the app turns on Plus.
- Catalogs: the quote app does not write them.
- Company records: the app stores its own company name, tax ID, VAT-exempt flag, credit limit, and contacts. A sync to Shopify’s company object is not documented.
- Price: the quote app’s catalog is free, with no paid tier.
- Connectors: HubSpot, Klaviyo, and Mailchimp are not in the quote catalog. A public bearer-token REST API and webhooks are.
How the two jobs sit side by side
| Job | Shopify B2B catalogs | Quote app |
|---|---|---|
| Plans | Companies, market catalogs, and net terms on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. | Fully free in the app catalog. Plus is not required for the quote features. |
| Catalog count | Lower plans: up to 3 active market catalogs. Plus intro: unlimited market catalogs. Same page: 25 catalogs per location and 10,000 per store. | Does not write Shopify catalogs, so these caps are not app limits. |
| Company location prices | Plus adds company-location catalogs, deposits, and partial payments. | In-app company records and a deposit schedule on the draft order it creates. |
| A price that is not on a list yet | A catalog publishes a price you already decided. | Hide the public price, take a request, counter, then draft the order. |
A hybrid store and a store that is not on Plus
A hybrid store can keep retail prices visible and hide a wholesale collection with a quote-app rule. That does not require Plus, and it does not fill a market catalog. If the same store later needs a contracted price list for a company location, that list is the Plus catalog feature, subject to the limits quoted above. The quote thread can still handle a one-off price the list does not contain.
A store on Basic, Grow, or Advanced can use market catalogs within the “up to 3 active market catalogs” statement, and can use the quote app for requests. Company-location catalogs, Shopify deposits, and Shopify partial payments are the Plus additions on the help page. The quote app’s hide-price rules, portal, PDF, and draft-order terms are available in the free app without those Plus additions. They still do not write the catalog.
Questions about Plus catalogs and a quote app
Does the quote app replace Shopify catalogs?
No. It does not write Shopify B2B catalogs. It hides prices, runs the quote, and can create a draft order.
Do you need Plus to hide a price?
No. The quote app’s hide-price modes are in the free app catalog. Plus is Shopify’s plan, with the starting price published on the upgrade page.
Which catalog limit should I plan against?
Quote both statements from the 13 October 2026 help page: Plus market catalogs are described as unlimited in the introduction, and the same page also states a location maximum of 25 catalogs and a store maximum of 10,000. Confirm the current page before you buy capacity.
Choose catalogs for native price lists and the quote app for a request that still has to be negotiated. Read Request a Quote and Hide Price for the quote side, and install Request a Quote and Hide Price only for the jobs that page documents.
