Shopify Forms vs SK Form Builder

Shopify Forms is the better default for a branded popup or an inline lead form tied to Shopify marketing. SK Form Builder fits when you need the catalog’s 34 input components, a scored quiz, a file upload, or the ticket system. Neither app replaces the other for every store.

Choose from the job, not from a ranking. This page does not publish review counts, star ratings, or a feature-by-plan matrix. SK Form Builder’s prices are in its catalog: Starter at no charge, Basic at $4.99 a month or $49.90 a year, and Pro at $12.99 a month or $129.90 a year. Those prices are not paired with a list of which features each tier unlocks.

Shopify’s own help for Shopify Forms is the source for that app’s popup and inline forms. A wider roundup of form apps already exists on Top 5 Best Shopify Contact Form Builder Apps in 2026. This article does not repeat that list.

What Shopify Forms is for

Use Shopify Forms when the form is a lead. Shopify’s help, checked on 13 October 2026, says the app is free to install and is not included with a plan by default. A popup or inline form can collect an email or phone number. Every form must include one of those as a required field. Company forms also require a company name. A form can have up to 31 fields.

The Tags setting adds a tag to customers who complete the form. On the success step, you can select a discount code to display in the confirmation message. That is not the same as applying the code to the cart. You can also build a customer segment from the form and later use that segment to email a discount. When Sign in with Shop is on, eligible forms show a Claim with Shop button, and you can turn that button off. SK Form Builder’s catalog does not include that button.

Shopify Forms is the simpler tool when you want that marketing signup and you do not need a scored quiz, a draft order, or a ticket. A three-field popup does not need a second app.

  • A newsletter or welcome popup.
  • An inline email or phone block on a page.
  • A customer tag, and a discount code shown after submit.

What SK Form Builder adds

SK Form Builder is a theme app block. The form renders inline, as a popup, or as a slide-in panel, inside a closed shadow DOM. Theme CSS and form CSS stay separated. The form schema is delivered through a theme metafield.

  • Field set: 34 components, including phone with dial codes, country and state, product selection, quantity, file upload, a signature pad, and page-info blocks for multi-step forms.
  • Rules: show or hide fields with AND or OR, using equals, contains, is empty, and greater or less than.
  • Quiz: correct answers are stored per field, the server scores the submission, and you can show the score and the correct answers. The quiz does not recommend a product or add one to the cart.
  • Commerce: a submission can create a Shopify draft order from product fields, or email a discount code. There is no in-form card charge.
  • Tickets: a submission with a customer email becomes a ticket with an SLA due date. Staff use a separate portal. The catalog does not assign tickets to Pro.
  • Exports and lists: CSV, Excel, and PDF export. Klaviyo can create or update a profile and add it to a list you choose. The catalog does not publish a Klaviyo field map.

Spam controls are reCAPTCHA v2, reCAPTCHA v3, hCaptcha, a honeypot, an IP blocklist, and a default of 10 submissions per IP per hour. Turnstile is not listed.

A simple popup example

You want an email and a discount code shown after signup. The shopper should not see a long form. Shopify Forms matches that job, because the success step can display a discount code. Putting the same popup in SK Form Builder is possible, because that app can render a popup, but it is extra software for a lead Shopify Forms already covers. SK Form Builder can email its own Shopify discount code from a submission. That is a different action from showing a code on a success step.

Keep the popup on Shopify Forms. If a later page needs a wholesale application, add SK Form Builder for that page only. Placing both blocks on the same screen, with no sentence that tells the shopper which form to use, produces two inboxes and two sets of notifications.

A custom form example

You want a made-to-order request: product, quantity, a logo file, and a note. Staff will price it as a draft order. Shopify Forms help, as used for this comparison, does not document that field set or a draft-order action. SK Form Builder does.

Shopify Forms can take one file of 20 MB or less, and only GIF, HEIC, JPEG, PDF, SVG, WebP, or XML. SK Form Builder’s upload uses an extension allowlist and checks type and size. Its catalog does not publish a megabyte cap, so do not treat 20 MB as its limit or as proof that it allows more. The draft order is created through Shopify’s Admin API from product fields. Staff still set the price. If the buyer must negotiate, use Request a Quote and Hide Price.

A post-purchase survey is another SK Form Builder job: an order-paid webhook can email the survey after a delay you set, once per order. That is not a popup, and it is not a public review widget.

How to choose without a winner

Write the form on paper first. If it is an email or phone, a customer tag, and a discount code on the success message, start with Shopify Forms. If it needs the quiz score, the ticket, or the draft order described above, read SK Form Builder and install SK Form Builder for that job.

Shopify’s help says Shopify Forms is free to install. SK Form Builder’s three prices are listed above, without a feature matrix. The Claim with Shop button depends on Sign in with Shop, and it is not in the SK Form Builder catalog.

Questions about the two form apps

Does Shopify Forms include a scored quiz?

Not in the Shopify Forms help used for this article. Quiz scoring, with correct answers shown to the shopper, is documented for SK Form Builder. It does not recommend a product.

Does SK Form Builder include the Shop claim button?

No. Shopify Forms can show Claim with Shop when Sign in with Shop is turned on for the store. That control is not in the SK Form Builder catalog.

Can one store use both?

Yes. Use Shopify Forms for the lead popup and SK Form Builder for the custom form. They do not have to replace each other.
