A thin Shopify description is a title, a slogan, or a line so short that the material, the size, and the use are missing. Refreshing that catalog means drafting a replacement from facts you supply, comparing it with the live text, and publishing only the fields you have checked. Squadexa AI can snapshot a live product, generate a replacement, and keep the original beside the draft. Free is single-generation only. It is not a CSV bulk plan.

Basic is $9 a month. On the Squadexa page, Basic adds regenerate-existing and CSV bulk of up to 10 products per job. Pro is $49 a month, raises the CSV job to 50 products, and adds a Shopify import CSV download. The catalog does not publish a word cap, and it does not include an Enterprise plan. Match the batch to the plan you are on before you upload a file.

How thin is too thin

Count the facts, not the adjectives. If a shopper cannot tell what the item is made of, who it is for, or how to care for it, the description is thin even when the sentence is polished. Imported catalogs often store the product title in the description field and nothing else. A three-word line such as “soft everyday essential” is a label. It is not a listing.

Sort the catalog before you regenerate anything. Pull a sample of twenty products and mark each one. Keep a handmade description that already states material, size, and use. Refresh the rows that are titles, slogans, or duplicated boilerplate. A tool that rewrites a careful paragraph you already trust creates review work you did not need.

  • Keep: descriptions that already name the material, the size, and one use.
  • Refresh: title-only imports, repeated slogans, and empty description fields.
  • Hold: any product whose specs you cannot find on a sheet, a sample, or a supplier note.

Which plan includes regenerate

Free, at $0, is single-product generation only. You enter a product name and primary keywords. The app returns a meta title, a description, a meta description, key features, and keyword tags, and it stores them as a new record. That is a useful trial of the writing. It is not the path for walking an existing catalog. The Squadexa page lists regenerate-existing on Basic, together with CSV bulk of up to 10 products in one job.

Regenerate-existing uses Shopify’s resource picker so you select a real product. The app snapshots that product’s current SEO fields, generates replacement content, and stores the original and the new version for a side-by-side comparison. You can push one field, or update the product more fully after you have read the draft. A free plan does not include the CSV job. Stay on single generation until you move to Basic or Pro.

  • Free, $0: one product at a time from a name and keywords. No CSV bulk job.
  • Basic, $9 a month: regenerate-existing on the plan card, and CSV up to 10 products per job.
  • Pro, $49 a month: CSV up to 50 products per job, plus a Shopify import CSV download.

Compare before you publish

The comparison view is the point of regenerating a live product. Read the original and the draft field by field. A thin original can still contain the one true detail in the catalog, such as a size or a fabric name. A longer draft can sound better and still invent a lining, a certification, or a care instruction. Publish the description only when the new text keeps every fact you meant to keep.

From that comparison you can update a single field. The catalog lists title, description, meta title, meta description, and tags as the one-field push. Use that when the handmade description should stay and only the meta description is weak. A fuller product update can also send title, description, tags, SEO fields, and status, and it can follow with a variant price update. Check the price and the product status before you push every field, so a copy edit does not change what the product costs or whether it is available.

Save for later writes the draft into the app library and leaves Shopify untouched. Use it when the description needs a second reader. The library shows status badges for created, updated, not created, and not updated, so you can see which records have already been sent to the store.

Revert if the live copy is wrong

Revert restores the pre-regeneration snapshot onto the live Shopify product. The snapshot is taken when regeneration starts, from the product’s current SEO fields, and the app keeps that original beside the new draft. If you publish a description and then see a bad claim, revert is the path back to that stored snapshot. The Squadexa page does not state how long the snapshot is kept. This article does not claim that Shopify itself stores an unlimited history of description edits.

Run the first regenerate on one product you can afford to inspect. Compare, push the description only, view the product on the storefront, and confirm you can still see the snapshot in the app. Then move to the next product. A catalog refresh that publishes fifty descriptions before anyone reads them is how thin copy becomes confident, wrong copy.

Keep the batch inside the plan

CSV bulk is for rows you have already decided to refresh, with a person ready to review the library before publish. Basic stops at 10 products in a job. Pro stops at 50. Split a larger catalog into jobs of that size. The upload runs as a batch, and the screen polls job status every few seconds. That progress survives a page refresh. When the job finishes, the app inserts the results into the library. Generating the file does not, by itself, replace the live descriptions. Publishing is a later action.

Pro’s CSV download maps generated products to Shopify’s product-import CSV, including handle, body HTML, variant price, and SEO fields. That file is for a merchant who wants Shopify’s importer in the loop. It is still a file you should open and read. A 50-row job is a review queue, not a permission to skip reading.

Questions about refreshing thin descriptions

Can I update only the meta description?

Yes, when you are in the regeneration comparison. The single-field push includes meta description, separate from the body description. Leave the handmade body in place if it is the text you trust.

What is the free plan limit?

Free is single-product generation only, at $0. The catalog does not publish a word cap. CSV bulk is not on Free. Regenerating existing products is listed on the Basic card.

Will a longer draft fix a title-only import?

Only if you add the missing facts before you publish. A generator can expand a title into sentences. Those sentences still need your specs. Compare, edit, and then update the field.

Refresh the thin rows on a plan that includes regenerate or CSV, compare each draft with the live text, and revert to the pre-regeneration snapshot if a publish goes wrong. Plan details are on Squadexa AI in the Shopify App Store.
