A Shopify Plus order bump is a checkbox for one extra product, shown with the cart lines before the buyer pays. In SK Checkout Customizer, you pick that product, write the label and description, set a displayed discount percentage, choose whether the box starts checked, and set the quantity. Checking the box adds the real product to the cart.
That placement sits on the checkout step. Shopify’s help on checkout configurations documents app blocks on the information, shipping, and payment steps as Plus. The Squadkin checkout page says the same thing in its own words: customizing the checkout page uses checkout extensibility on Plus, while thank-you and order-status blocks are the wider path. A non-Plus store should not expect this checkbox on the payment page. The later page is a different offer.
Why the checkbox has to be Plus
Gift wrap, a warranty, or a tip only helps if it joins the order before payment. After the shopper has paid, a checkbox cannot attach itself to that charge. Checkout UI extensions draw this block inside checkout extensibility. Plus is the plan Shopify Help uses for blocks on those steps. Confirm the target in your checkout editor even on Plus, so you know the block landed under the cart lines and not on a page you did not intend.
The app is free. Plus is a Shopify plan requirement for the page, not an SK Checkout Customizer price. Every block in the catalog is available without an app tier. The editor can still refuse the checkout step when the store is not on Plus.
What you configure on the order bump
The bump sells one product. Create that product in Shopify first, with a real price and a name your warehouse understands. A gift-wrap SKU called “Gift wrap” is clearer than a hidden variant nobody can pick on the product page.
- Product: chosen with the resource picker. Checking the box adds this product.
- Label and description: the sentence beside the checkbox, such as “Add gift wrap.”
- Displayed discount percentage: a percentage you set on the bump. The catalog calls it displayed. It does not say this percentage creates a Shopify discount code.
- Pre-checked: optional. Leave it unchecked unless the add-on is something the shopper would expect to decline.
- Quantity: the amount added when the box is checked. Gift wrap is usually one.
If you need a genuine price reduction from a discount code, use the separate checkbox upsell. That block can apply a real Shopify discount code when checked and remove it when unchecked. Do not describe the order bump’s displayed percentage as that same code.
A gift-wrap example
Add a product named Gift wrap, priced at the amount you actually charge. In the order bump, select that product, set the label to “Add gift wrap to this order,” write one line about how it will be packed, set quantity to 1, and leave the box unchecked. Place a test order on a Plus checkout, check the box, and confirm the line appears in the cart and on the completed order.
A warranty works the same way when the warranty is a product. A tip works only when the tip is a product the bump can add. The catalog does not describe a native tip field that is separate from a product. If you do not want a tip product in the catalog, this widget is the wrong tool for that tip.
Think twice before pre-checking gift wrap. A checked box adds a real line. Shoppers in the US, UK, and Canada should see the price before they pay. A pre-checked add-on that people miss is a support problem, not a feature.
Tell fulfillment what the new line means. Gift wrap only works if the packing bench sees that product on the order and has the paper to match it. A warranty line should map to the policy you will honor. The bump adds the product. It does not print a packing slip, email the warehouse, or file a warranty registration. Those steps stay in your existing order workflow.
When you need the offer only on some carts
The order bump card itself documents the product, the copy, the displayed percentage, the pre-checked state, and the quantity. The catalog’s conditional engine is documented on the checkbox upsell and on the checkout upsell blocks. Those blocks can combine rules with AND or ANY across cart subtotal, cart total, cart quantity, cart currency, a discount code already present, cart attributes, the cart note, specific products in the cart, product vendor, a customer metafield, time of day, and day of week.
Use that engine when gift wrap should appear only if the cart already contains a product you named, or only above a subtotal you set. Stack two rules when both must be true, or use ANY when either condition is enough. The catalog does not publish a separate list of 30 rule types, and it does not include an A/B test or a scheduler on the bump.
What a non-Plus store should use instead
The thank-you upsell is the other block. It shows products from a collection or a manual list on the thank-you and order-status pages, and it excludes items just purchased. That is a recommendation after payment. It is not this checkbox, and it does not add gift wrap to the order the shopper already paid. If the packing team needs the wrap decision before the order is created, the store needs the Plus checkout step.
Questions about checkout order bumps
Can a non-Plus store put the checkbox on the payment page?
Shopify Help documents app blocks on that step as Plus. Use the thank-you upsell on other plans, and treat it as a later, different offer.
Does the displayed percentage become a discount code?
The order bump documents a displayed percentage. The checkbox upsell is the block that applies and removes a real Shopify discount code.
Can the bump target one product in the cart?
Specific products in the cart are a rule on the checkbox upsell and checkout upsell engine. Use that block when the offer must depend on what is already in the cart.
Build the gift-wrap product, then add the checkbox from SK Checkout Customizer on a Plus checkout. The install link is SK Checkout Customizer.
