A non-Plus store needs a checkout app only when the job is on a page that store can edit. Shopify’s help on checkout configurations documents app blocks on the thank-you page and the order-status page for Basic and higher. It documents app blocks on the information, shipping, and payment steps, and checkout branding through the Branding API, as Plus. If your list is “a product offer after the order,” an app can be useful on Basic. If your list is “a checkbox beside the card form,” the app will look broken because the plan will not place it there.

SK Checkout Customizer is free. It does not hide blocks behind its own paid tier, because it has no paid tier. Shopify’s plan is the gate. Checkout UI extensions still need a checkout extensibility context, and that context does not open every target on every plan. Starter is outside the Basic-and-higher row, so a Starter store should confirm the thank-you target in the editor before installing for that page.

The job, written as a page

Write the change as a page name before you compare apps. “Increase the order” is not a page. “Show three add-ons on the thank-you page” is a page. “Hide a payment method” is a checkout function you must verify on your plan, not a Basic banner. “Recolor the checkout” is branding, and the Branding API row in Shopify Help is Plus. The Checkout Customizer catalog does not include a branding editor. A marketing card that lists one is not the catalog, and it is not a way around Plus.

Merchants on Basic, and on the standard Shopify plan that sits between Basic and Advanced, hit the same help table. This article does not invent a separate checkout-block right for each of those names. It uses the split Help documents: thank-you and order status from Basic upward, checkout-step app blocks and Branding API branding on Plus.

Pages a non-Plus store can plan on

The thank-you page is the screen immediately after payment. The order-status page is the one shoppers reopen from email. App blocks there are the documented non-Plus path. SK Checkout Customizer’s thank-you upsell fits that path. It recommends products from a collection or a manual list, drops anything the shopper just bought, and can show a carousel and an optional discount banner.

  • Thank-you upsell: a product offer after the order, from a collection or a list you choose.
  • Order status: the same class of page in Shopify Help, worth a second look when the editor offers that target.
  • No app fee: the block is included because the whole app is free, not because Basic unlocked a paid feature.

Test one real order. If the block is missing, check the plan and the target before you file a bug. A payment-step target on a non-Plus store is expected to be unavailable.

Pages to leave closed

The information step, the shipping step, and the payment step are where gift wrap, trust badges, custom fields, a free-shipping progress bar, and a delivery message would sit in this catalog. Those are checkout blocks. Shopify Help puts that placement on Plus. Installing the app and searching the editor for them on Basic wastes an afternoon. Trust badges are a checkout row of icons or uploaded images. They are not a thank-you fallback in the catalog, so a non-Plus store should not install this app only to put badges on the confirmation page.

Payment and delivery functions, and the minimum-order validation, are Shopify Functions rather than a picture on the page. The catalog includes them and does not price them. It does not promise them on Basic. Verify any function in the editor on your store. This article will not upgrade a function into a Basic feature to make the install feel useful.

Branding stays on Plus

Checkout branding through the Branding API is the Plus row for colors, typography, and the related branding controls Shopify documents there. Read the help page for the exact controls, and do not treat this article as a full list of native checkout settings. The app catalog has no branding editor to substitute for that API. If the goal is a checkout that matches the storefront’s colors, a non-Plus store does not get that from SK Checkout Customizer, and it does not get it from a free install.

There is also no A/B test and no revenue dashboard in the catalog. A non-Plus store is not missing those because of Shopify Plus. It is missing them because this product does not include them on any plan.

When the right outcome is no install

Skip the app when every item on your list needs the payment step or the Branding API. You will not lose a feature by waiting until a Plus conversation is real. Install when the thank-you or order-status page is genuinely the job: one more product, chosen by you, after payment. That is a complete use of the app on Basic. It is not a partial setup you will “turn on” later without changing Shopify plans.

US, UK, and Canadian stores on Basic should make that call in the checkout editor, not from an ad. Open the editor, look for the thank-you target, and stop if the only targets you needed are locked.

Questions about checkout apps without Plus

Is a branding editor included on Basic?

No. The catalog has no branding editor. Shopify Help documents Branding API checkout branding as Plus.

Are payment and delivery rules on Basic?

The catalog includes the functions and does not assign them to Basic. Confirm them in your editor. Do not assume they are available.

Is the app free if I only use the thank-you page?

Yes. SK Checkout Customizer has no paid tier. You still only get the pages Shopify allows on your plan.

Use SK Checkout Customizer for a thank-you or order-status offer your plan allows. Install SK Checkout Customizer after the editor shows that page, and skip it when the job is the payment step.
